The Velodyssey allows you to cycle from Brittany all the way to Spain down the west coast of France. Part of EuroVelo route 1, this popular long distance route offers a varied landscape with pine forests, beaches, islands, marshlands and historic towns including La Rochelle and Rochefort.
Holland is not actually that big so you can cover a lot of ground in a short trip. In just four days, staying three nights and cycling 159 miles, we managed to see Amsterdam, Utrecht, Gouda, the Hague, Leiden and Haarlem. Admittedly, we didn’t do much except cycle, eat and sleep. But there's a lot to see from the saddle.
An absolute dream of a cycle route. Smooth, flat bike paths meander through stunning French countryside, much of it on levees by the river, all beautifully signed, taking in lovely towns, passing by chateaux – and with lots of cafes and boulangeries along the way. A perfect introduction to long distance cycling.
